Days 21-24

Day 21...What I'm Reading.
I am currently reading my second Blogging for Books book, Rooted. The cover and title attracted me; I love how the author uses plant analogies too. I actually just reviewed it on my other blog even though I'm not quite finished with it yet.
Day 22...Where you Stand
In the grass (during the summer), and most of the time..in my Chacos! I've had these sandals for about a year now and I wear them almost everywhere. I took the very literal version of "Where I Stand"

Day 23...12 o' Clock
I am currently working on painting a sewing cabinet. If you are like me you are probably wondering what a sewing cabinet is. I'm not even sure this is what they are commonly called, but this is what my mother calls them. It looks like a table, but you open it at the top of the table and can pull up a sewing machine to use at the table. But when you are not using it, it looks just like, and can be used like, any other small table. The backstory is...my mom recently told me that a sweet lady from church (who loves going to auctions and often gets extra things she doesn't need) was going to give me a sewing machine because she had recently acquired three. Mom was at one of her favorite local thrift stores and saw a sewing machine cabinet there. They were only asking $15 for it, so she got it for me for my future machine. Turns out there is already a sewing machine inside this cabinet..a bonus! The cabinet wasn't very attractive so I decided to paint it with some pretty yellow paint my parents had. At 12 o' clock, I was in the garage, about to start putting on the first coat of paint. So..now I just have to learn more about using my new sewing machine.
This is how it looks when you aren't using the sewing machine
Day 24...Weather
The weather this week has been absolutely great! And 10 times better than what they predicted. I'm still crossing my fingers that it doesn't actually rain tomorrow for the camping trip!

Season

It's spring, that's what season it is. Spring means pretty flowers and many other green, growing things. The bottom middle picture is a hanging basket (a type of Begonia) that I got my mom for Mother's Day. And the ones on the top are a lavender plant and two other very unique plants that I purchased at Lowe's from the sale section-- $5 for the three of them! My mom has passed on her love of growing things to me, I have recently really gotten into house plants and potted porch plants as you can probably tell from all my posts. So that's what spring means to me! I hope to continue to share my wonderfully green hobby.

Plant Lovin'

I'm really loving all the plant tidbits by my fellow Twenty-Somethings. I too have been planting and enjoying seeing all the green inside and outside of my apartment. I mostly have flowers and succulents but I now have one herb (oregano) and a pot of lettuce that has been planted (the seeds haven't sprouted yet). My Mom has been helping me transplant and re-pot things. On my short trip home last weekend Mom and I went to a locally owned greenhouse in my hometown. I found several pretty plants there. I'm becoming worse than my Mom, she has a huge collection of plants. Anyway I bought three plants that got put into a hanging basket. It will look really pretty when it has filled out. I'm going to give it to my beau, he expressed some interest in having some flowers at his abode, so I'm going to help him out! I also got a pretty licorice plant that's really unique. So...want to admire the plants now?
I'm proud of my upcycled rainboots..they're adorable

Garden Update #1

I am at work, so this post will have to be short.
Here is a current picture of what my squash looks like now:

This is the only remaining squash that I have left from the 15 or so that I started from seed. I shared the majority of my plants with friends and family, but lost a couple plants due to planting them outside too early. The frost killed them.

My next door neighbor gave me three cucumber plants and a couple tomato plants that are also doing well. And I have transplanted several bell pepper plants outside, that are doing okay, but not growing as fast as the others.

As far as my herb garden goes, I currently have basil, rosemary, chives, and some catnip. Of all these, the chives are the only one that I started from seed. The others were either given to me or purchased. I have also planted several flowers around the house that I may share in an upcoming post.

My New Roommate

There are so many little things I would love to share with you all right now, but because I am only taking a short break in between studying for a BIG exam tomorrow, I'm only going to write a tidbit (how appropriate!) on here. The biggest news right now is about my new furry friend and roommate, Cleo.

It's a trial run for both of us. I'm not used to having a cat indoors and she isn't used to living exclusively indoors but we've both enjoyed it so far. After two days she's getting more used to my apartment and she seems to be fairly happy. Seems like a crazy idea, but I've considered trying to train her to walk on a leash. We'll see about that. And if the situation doesn't seem like it's going to work out, I can always take her back to my parent's house and set her free again. But I'm crossing my fingers we both like having her in the apartment. She may have to visit home with me if I decide to go home for an extended period of time (a couple of weeks), although I already have an offer from a good cat-sitter. Cat...I mean Granny Eyre. The rest of the Twenty-Somethings all need to meet her! Plus, I need to have you all over anyway for a craft party or something.
Not much in the way of new news besides that. My apartment is quickly filling up with plants. My Mom keeps sending me with new ones and I've got some outside on my porch that are pretty cute. I'll have to share some more plant photos with you all soon, or you can just visit me! :)

That's all for now, better get back to studying the brain (with my brain!)! Haha!

Recent Happenings..

...in the life of The Farmer's Daughter. Hey, that's me!
I decided since I haven't seen most of my good friends (and fellow Twenty Somethings) in about a week, they might need a catch-up on my life. Today, I went to Frankfort with my fellow OT students. We went to the Capitol, met with legislators, and advocated for bills that we wanted or didn't want passed. It was neat, but honestly, there was so much waiting around. Waiting to meet with legislators and waiting for the next event. But it was still interesting and one of my group members said they kept flashing to the Netflix original, House of Cards, while they were watching the legislators walk around. The lives of these people is intriguing, I might just have to add that show to my list of things I want to watch on Netflix. (Not what I should really be doing with my time!)

By the way, thanks for hosting a really cute
Galentine's Day party last week, Granny Eyre!
Also, I have a new-to-me vehicle (aka my Mom's old car). It was bittersweet to say goodbye to Cruella, and she is still at my parent's house, but it is sooooo nice to be in a better vehicle. It's the little things, like a well running heater, an in tact headliner, slightly tinted windows, and a little bit more room in the cab of the vehicle..oh, and bigger cup holders! Needless to say, I'm happy I got to upgrade!

It is also official, I will be staying in Berea for the summer and through the fall of next year (maybe longer). My landlords were asking about my plans and I decided, if they wanted me to stick around for the fall of next year, I would like to stay. I wouldn't mind spending my summer at home, but I should be able to visit home more often when I don't have classes this summer.

Speaking of my little apartment, I am very happy with how my plant shelf is coming along. While I was home for winter break I found a small shelf that is supposed to be mounted on the wall. I had visions of sitting it in front of my little window in my bedroom/living room and putting plants on it. My mother has the greenest thumb you'll ever see, so I knew she'd love the idea. I upcycled several tin cans by painting them and using them for the pots. The idea was to use all tin cans, but that didn't actually happen. Anyway, she replanted several low-light plants she had into the cans and other small pots for me. It brightens the living room and makes me happy!

I really liked this silhouette photo I took of it on Sunday
I hope you enjoyed my little update!
