Pictures Not Included

Hello fellow twenty somethings! It's been a while since my last post. Summer wasn't even here yet and now what do you, summer only has a month left. Crazy. These past couple of months have flown by. Lots of new music, an app that keeps getting better, and some fun adventures with all of you. Currently, well the last week and half, my life has consisted of watching the Olympics. By far my most favorite sport to watch is women's indoor volleyball. As a player of the sport sporadically in my mere 24 years of life, i very much get into the sport and of course i have to root for the USA. So far the team has been undefeated. After a complete shutout of Japan 3 sets to 0, these women are on their way to the semifinals on Thursday. Something that sort of bugs me about the Olympics is Micheal Phelps. i do give him props for doing so well in his swimming career. My qualm is with the way all these people are calling him the most decorated Olympian. In my opinion I do not think an athlete deserves that title unless they have competed in different sports not just one particular. That's all i have to say about that. i have made a couple of post about music in the past but haven't in a while so i want to catch you up on what songs are currently on my playlist, mind you some of these are a few months old but still on my playlist don't judge.
1. Charlie Puth- One Call Away (because you all know i'm only one call away)
2. Love Yourself- Justin Beiber (just tell it how it is bro)
3. Here's My Heart Lord- Passion Worship Band (i owe everything to God this song sings that)
4. To Live is Christ- Sidewalk Prophets (my life is lived for His glory)
5. How You Get the Girl- T. Swift (what's a playlist without my girl T. Swift)
6. Let It Go- James Bay (not to be confused with Frozens hit song)
7. One Step Away- Casting Crowns (God is always near)
8. One True God- Steven Curtis Chapman
9. Home- Blue October (i heard a song by them years ago and this song is just as good)
10. Fight Song- Rachel Platten (if ever i need motivation this is where i go)
11. 7 Years- Lukas Graham (reminds me life is an ever changing adventure, live it)
12. Stand In The Light- Jordan Smith (don't be afraid to go and do)
13. Between the Lines- Sara Bareilles
14. Lost Boy- Ruth B (my sister introduced me to this)
15. Refuge- Finding Favor (God is a safety)
Something i've been doing a couple days a week for a few hours on those days, is volunteering my time at the library. It is good for me, having a bit of structure. i have been mostly shelving books. It is a peaceful go at your own pace kind of task. This kind of task is a perfect fit for me, i very much enjoy it. A goal of mine is to start riding my bicycle at least 3 times a week. i think it will be helpful to stay active in this way. Well that's a bit of what's happening on my end. Literacy Night and another adventure

Last night I had the opportunity to help out at my former labor position from college. The month of March is somewhat commonly known as literacy month. It is also the month in which Dr. Seuss has a birthday, which him being a childrens book creator, adds to the hype of the month in the education world. Last night the CDL hosted their annual literacy night. This is a celebration of literacy geared toward the youngsters that go to the center. There were many games and activities that related to the happenings in many Dr. Seuss books. There is also appearances made by thing 1 and thing 2, and The Cat in the Hat himself. But what kind of celebration would it be if there wasn't any food? That's where I come in. Every year that I worked at the cdl as a student, I would volunteer in the kitchen making popcorn. Even though I am not a labor student anymore, I got invited to come back and help out in the kitchen again. It was a great night popping popcorn and catching up with people. Seeing the cute little children added to the greatness of the night.

Another happening of this past week was getting to go to a concert for free. Eyre knows people with connections apparently because we both got tickets to see Third Day and Brandon Heath for a night of worship. The beginning of the concert was a bit scary for me because I was sitting alone with a lot of people I didn't know and it was overwhelming for me. But a little later Eyre was able to join me because of an empty seat. During the evening I heard many songs, some I knew, some I didn't but that was okay. I love listening to music because songs tell stories and with this particular genre of music the stories point to God and that is pretty amazing to me. Fun tidbit from that evening is that we went to IHOP for dinner and I got some chocolate chip pancakes and they were scrumptious!
Well that's about it for now. Captain Something Fun signing off.

Third Day and Brandon Heath

Last night I knew someone personally on the stage at the Third Day/Brandon Heath concert in Richmond. My brother's girlfriend, Olivia, was invited to sing as part of the choir for Third Day. It was rather cool. In exchange for her voice, she received two free tickets, and she chose me! I took Captain with me. After some minor disappointments about not being seated together, it was a good concert. The venue was comfortable and the sound wasn't too obnoxious. These two bands perform some wonderful songs. I'll leave a couple here after some of my pictures.

The one thing I did which I highly regret is that I was not fully present for the concert. I very quickly got caught up in taking pictures and videos instead of enjoying the music, the words of the artists, and the experience.

It's the Small Things

So Granny Eyre informed me that is my turn to make a blog post, who'd a thunk it. Anyways my life has been a bit busy with classes, work, and church these past few weeks. I took the GRE (secretly known as the Grueling Rhino's Examination). It was interesting exam which I am not allowed to disclose much information about so I will try my best not to go into too great of detail about that part of my day. Which incase you were wondering I have had a fabulous weekend. It started around 5 oclock when all the children went home early for various reasons so I was able to shut down the classroom and leave early. Then meet up at church to eat a home cooked meal of lasagna and spaghetti, with a bit of salad and bread to go along with it. It was very scrumptious! The plan was to watch God's Not Dead, which after the third viewing can still say this is an excellent movie that I would recommend any one to watch. It was about 930 when the movie was finished but the night was still young. A group of us from my sunday school class where still awake and up for anything so of course we had to play Apples to Apples. I get too competitive with this game but I still enjoy it even if I only received one green apple card :(. I wake up Saturday morning ready to conquer this monstrous exam that will decidedly determine my future education plans eek. Granny Eyre spent the night because it was late and on her way to leave she handed me my own personal GRE ready bag filled with chocolate, mints, and Bubbles! I must say for those of you who do not know, I seriously hate taking exams of any sorts. It is not the content questions that bother me just the sheer amount of time it takes. I cannot sit still for long amounts of time like that so I tend to just rush through exams. Probably not the best practices to use. It did not help that I am a bit sick and runny noses are not conducive to taking exams either. In happier news my little friends at work have been super wonderful, exciting, and adventurous lately. We play lots of games and sing songs. I am going to teach you all some of these songs the next time we are all together especially the Farmers Daughter because I think she could use them in her classroom as well. Sometimes I get stuck on songs and just listen to them on repeat all day long. Right now that song is Jesus, Only Jesus- by Philips, Craig, and Dean. It is very good song that paints a picture of what it is like to know/have Jesus with you. As I mentioned in a really long ago post, if you have any songs that you like you should share with me because I love music! Another wonderful thing that has happened is someone in my dorm did my house duty for me this week :) I am not sure who or why but someone cleaned for me and it is very much appreciated because it gives me time to breathe. That is it for now. Peace to you all!

Music

I love music! I wouldn’t call myself a fanatic or anything like that. As I am sitting here alone in my room twisted sisters “We’re Not Going to Take It” is playing on my youtube channel. With technology it is so easy to access music from decades ago and pull it up within seconds without even paying a dime to hear it. I love it! I have gained an appreciation for music in my twenty something years of existence. I do not have a favorite genre. Depending on what type of mood I am in determine what is playing in the background. My best friend tells me she can tell what type of mood I am in based on what is playing through my speakers. I would say that most of the time she is pretty accurate too. For example if I am in an upbeat get up and go do something type of mood, you will hear anything from The Beatles to John Mellencamp to Taio Cruz, Fun, and T. Swift blaring through my speakers. If I am in a reminiscent mood, you will hear a lot of 90’s and early 2000’s music playing through like music from The Goo Goo Dolls, Bon Jovi, REM, Shaina Twain, Backstreet Boys, Destiny’s Child, and Matchbox Twenty just to name a few. I don’t know how to describe the feeling for this next category. When it hits me I just call it my 80’s feeling. A lot of Cher, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Twisted Sisters, and Queen plays during those times. When I am down or stuck in a funk I play a lot of what my best friend likes to call “teenage angst” songs. You will typically hear a lot of Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, and Matchbox Twenty. For the final mood category I will mention in this post, I am dedicating it to my favorite female artist. I guess you can call this my girl power music. T. Swift, Avril Lavigne, Pink, Shaina Twain, Kelly Clarkson, Alanis Morissette, Carrie Underwood, and Martina McBride play through during these times.
I would now like to make a list of songs that fit with specific moods you may be feeling. So here it goes
1. Happy- “Happy” by  pharrell williams
2. Falling in Love- “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain, “I want it That Away” by Backstreet Boys, “Jack and Diane” John Mellencamp, “Call Me Maybe” Carly Rae Jepsen
3. Hopeful- “There Will Be a Day” Jeremy Camp, “I Won’t Give Up” Jason Mraz, “Livin on a Prayer” Bon Jovi, “Better Days” Goo Goo Dolls, “Get Back Up” Toby Mac. “Carry On” Fun,
4. Lazy- “The Lazy Song” Bruno Mars
5. Go Getter- “Do Something” Matthew West, “Run This Town” Jay Z, “I want To Ride My Bicycle” Queen,
6. Winning/On Top of the World- “We Are The Champions” Queen, “Some Nights” Fun
7. Regretful/Guilty- “6 Degrees of Separation” The Script, “How To Save A Life” The Fray, “Apologize” One Republic
8. Heart Broke- “Breakeven” The Script, “We are Never Getting Back Together” Any T. Swift song (legit if you are a girl especially), “Skyscraper” Demi Lovato, “ Just A Dream” Carrie Underwood “Just a Dream” Nelly
9. Tired- “Asleep” The Smiths, “Worn” Tenth Avenue North, “Busted Heart” For King and Country, “I’m So Tired” The Beatles
10. Confused- “Complicated” Avril Lavigne, “Untitled” Simple Plan, “Slide” Goo Goo Dolls, “Story Of My Life” Bon Jovi
For tonight this will be the end of my post. I hope you like it. If you have any suggestions or songs that think should be added write it down as a comment and I will check into it. Signing off until next time,
Captain Fun Something. Peace be with you all.
