Knitting My First Baby Blanket

As I mentioned in a previous post, I've been getting back into knitting. I've been knitting since I was 10 or 11, but it hasn't been a steady hobby since that age. I've made scarves mainly and have never gone too far beyond them. So..when my Mom suggested I make a baby blanket for my beau's sister, I was excited to get back into this hobby and make something sweet for my beau's future niece. I went to the shower last weekend and his sister and their family all loved it, which was very rewarding after spending so much time working on it. If you're interested in the pattern for this cute and easy blanket, go here! It's super simple: all knitting and it includes a cute border around the edge. So...here it the blanket!

Making handmade items and using them for yourself is always a nice feeling, but it's even nicer to see someone else being able to use and appreciate something you've made. So, I've also been trying to start making more knitted items (especially with Christmas right around the corner), but I have yet to start on anything else. When I can get some help from the master knitter, my momma, I will be able to start on some new items..which I hope to keep you posted on! :)

What I have learned from an 18 month old

I've spent this past long weekend with the cutest little girl I know (my niece Poppy) along with my family and Jason. Poppy's parents dropped her off on Thursday evening and she stayed through Sunday. I thought a list might be an appropriate way to sum up some of the things I learned about her this weekend.

1. It is appropriate to point for what you want and say "tsss"...you'll probably win the adult over with your smile anyway and they'll give it to you. Words aren't really necessary
2. I am known as "Caa". She's working on the other letters in my name too, she's just not there yet.
3. Her smile is almost the cutest thing I've ever seen.
4. Sugary foods really are the best things to eat.
5. It's okay to run around outside with nothing but a hat on (Just kidding..this is only appropriate if you're a baby)
6. Babies are fast; turn your head and they're gone.
7. She is extremely well behaved at church. The loudest noises she made was to giggle.
8. It's okay to be very messy when you're eating.
9. It's also okay to eat with your hands
10. Washing hands ("washa washa") and brushing your teeth are both very exciting.
11. Naps can be and should be about 2 hours long.
12. There's really nothing cuter than a baby when she's very excited to see you.
13. I can't say "no" to picking her up. She's really cuddly.
14. Diapers are messy.
15. Leave the bathroom door closed. There's too much to get into in there.
16. It's really sweet watching a certain man hold and play with said baby. Jason... :)
17. Blueberries are awesome and should be eaten right after they are picked. She's gotta have a hollow leg (holding blueberries..and crackers and pretzels).
18. I love my niece.

DIY Necklace & the Rock Quarry

Here goes with an update on some activities I've been getting into:

Tennessee... I went to visit brother in Tennessee last Thursday through Saturday. Originally we were planning on going to a place called The Beach and some natural waterfalls in Tn. We changed our plans, though, when we heard it was supposed to rain. Instead, we went somewhere closer to their home (in case it started raining). It was a beautiful rock quarry.
The water was a beautiful greenish blue looking down at it and it was very clear and cool in the water. Poppy, my niece, really enjoyed the water once she got used to it. Most of my family loves water..I am pretty sure she will too!
Poppy gets cuter & more independent every day!
Crafting.. I was attempting to weed out some of the jewelry I don't ever wear and I found a long necklace chain without any charm on it. It reminded me of a necklace I had been wanting to make but I thought I didn't have all the materials for. (Of course this craft was found on Pinterest.)
What I used for to make this necklace:
Jewelry (small) pliers, scissors, paint chips, necklace chain & a needle
What I ended up doing with the necklace chain I found was shortening the chain and using the links in the excess chain to attach the paint chips cut into triangles. Otherwise, I followed the directions of this blogger: Sincerely, Kinsey I was quite pleased with the final product! :)
