Miscellaneous

Sunday night, I got a flat tire. I'm pretty sure it happened after going up a gravel driveway that had been washed away in spots due to all this rain we've been having. My valve stem was torn, which allowed the air to escape my tire, while the tire itself was still perfectly fine.
Anyhow, today I went to Tire Discounters and got the tire repaired for free. I was pleasantly surprised that they offer free valve stem replacement for the lifetime of your tire if you buy four from them (which I did about a year ago). And to think I was gonna go to Walmart and pay $20-$25?! Which would still have been a cheap fix by the way. So far I have gotten lucky to only tear up my car in fairly minor ways haha

Since summer work has come to an end, I've been looking for small ways to make money until I land another job. One of my bright ideas was to sell green beans from our garden. My dad had way more beans than he cared to fool with, so I offered to take them off his hands. I picked 25 gallons of beans in approximately five hours. My plan was to sell them online. I had someone interested who asked me to pick all the beans and then call them back and tell them how many I had. When I called back, they said they had already bought some. Bummer. So we ended up taking them to the Amish auction instead.

Tonight, I helped my parents put up corn. My job was to cut corn off the cob, which wasn't too difficult once I got the hang of it. I came close to cutting myself a couple times, but fortunately no trips to the ER were necessary. My mom took a picture of us cutting up the corn, but I don't have a copy of it to share with you quite yet.

P.S.
I now have the blogger app on my iPad, so hopefully you will be seeing posts more often from me. I hated the hassle of dealing with my ancient laptop to post frequently before, but now I don't have that excuse.

Until next time,

Mom's Birthday...and all the food!

As most of you know, my mother had a birthday yesterday! I had a bunch of fun fixing her a birthday dinner and an edible gift. My beau and I decided to fix the dinner...we had a sweet, garlicky chicken, green beans from the garden, baked apples from our apple tree, and kale salad with blueberries and strawberries (kale from the garden, blueberries from our bushes, and strawberries from a friend's garden!) And because it was a birthday, and you can't forget dessert, we made a chocolate pie with homemade whipped cream. It was all REALLY good. My beau and I aren't really used to fixing dinner, but it turned out to be quite tasty, and we were proud. Just thinking about the yummy food makes me mouth water. I thought I'd share the pictures and recipes from some of the dishes we made since it all tasted so delicious. You can find the pie recipe here...this recipe was fairly easy and it tasted very good! You can find the chicken recipe here. I would recommend the chicken recipe for it's simplicity and for the ability to alter it slightly to your taste with added herbs or spices that you like.

As for Mom's gift..I had seen a recipe on Pinterest about making homemade turtles. Since this is probably her favorite candy, I decided to try to make them for her birthday. They were fairly simple to put together and turned out really tasty. The only issue I had was with the caramel rolling over the pecans and then sticking to the wax paper (and then causing the turtles to stick together once they were in the container together). I'm not sure how to avoid this, except maybe to make a thicker layer of pecans on the bottom and not use as much caramel on each one. Even with this problem, I would recommend the turtle recipe.
Mom actually made the salad, she also put roasted almonds in it...SO good!
The baked apples were good..but I think we can do better next time!
I had to sample her turtles...and they are yummy!
That's all for now!

My Life in Pictures

I haven't been up to very much lately, which is the main reason why I haven't posted anything in awhile. However, I decided whether my life was interesting or not, I would post something anyways. So, here goes (in no particular order):
I spent some time playing Frisbee with this cutie.
I had a cool video of him catching the Frisbee in mid-air, but I couldn't figure out how to upload it....maybe next time.
I watched a beautiful sunset (alone).
One day last week was spent shucking corn. I personally shucked 4 five-gallon buckets of corn, which doesn't seem like a lot, but you would be surprised how many ears of corn my dad can fit in one bucket! I shucked the corn, and he was inside cutting it off the cob to freeze it. And of course, I had to make some corny jokes!

While sitting outside working on the corn, I witnessed my cat carrying something in her mouth. At first, I was just going to let her keep it, because by the time I can catch her, it's usually too late. Not this time.  I put it up in a tree where it stayed sheltered from the rain (for the most part) under a leaf. When I went to check on it the next day, it was gone, which is probably a good sign when I think about it. Since I have not found the body, I would like to assume that it is still alive.

I have also went to the movies twice in one weekend. Once to see 22 Jump Street, and the second time I watched Tammy. I enjoyed both movies, but could definitely say that I laughed more at 22 Jump Street, which kinda surprised me. However, I don't think that I could ever not enjoy a movie that Melissa McCarthy is in. She's just too hilarious!

Today was spent breaking beans that I picked yesterday. I decided to cook some of them and dry the others. We are having spinach lasagna tonight with some of the green beans I cooked, so I'm going to get off of here and enjoy the vegetables of my labor! haha!

See ya later,
